Alameda's City Council posted a public notice this week for an Oakland Roots and Soul open house on August 8, and if you want an early look at what the pro soccer clubs have planned for their Harbor Bay Parkway facility, this is your chance.

What the Notice Actually Says

The notice isn't a hearing and it isn't a vote. It's a Sunshine Ordinance notice, which the city has to post any time a majority of the City Council might show up somewhere together to talk about public business. In this case, that somewhere is the "Oakland Roots & Soul Facility Improvement Open House," set for 10 a.m. on August 8 at 1220 Harbor Bay Parkway, the club's headquarters and training site in the Harbor Bay Business Park.

No Vote, No Minutes, Just a Look

According to the city's own agenda item, the council won't be taking any action and the City Clerk won't even be keeping minutes. That's normal for this kind of notice. It exists so the public knows in advance that several council members might be in the same room, not because anything's being decided that day. The open house itself is open to the public, and residents are welcome to show up, look around and ask questions.

Why This Matters if You Live Nearby

That address should sound familiar if you've been following the Pulse. It's the same site where Oakland Roots and Soul pitched a temporary 8,000-seat stadium back in June, the former Oakland Raiders training facility tucked into the business park near the airport. This open house is billed as being about facility improvements, not the stadium plan specifically, but it's a real chance to see the site in person and ask club staff directly what they're working on before anything moves further through the city's approval process.

  • What: Oakland Roots & Soul Facility Improvement Open House
  • When: August 8, 10 a.m.
  • Where: 1220 Harbor Bay Parkway, Alameda
  • Cost: Free and open to the public

If you can't make it but want to keep tabs on what's happening at the Harbor Bay site, or anywhere else around town, the Pulse keeps a running list on our events calendar. And if the stadium conversation is what you're really curious about, that process is still early. Nothing about the modular stadium has been approved, and city staff say more study on traffic and noise is still coming before it goes to a real vote.
