One's Cafe & Bakery Opens on Park Street

A new bakery just took over one of Park Street's most familiar coffee shop spots, and if you love pastries with an Asian twist, you'll want to stop in soon. One's Cafe & Bakery opened on July 1 at 1926 Park St., the address longtime Coffee Cultures customers will remember well. You've probably walked past that storefront a hundred times without thinking twice about it. Now there's a reason to slow down.

What's on the Menu at One's Cafe & Bakery

This isn't the first shop for the business. One's got its start in Castro Valley, and according to The Oaklandside's Nosh food column, the Alameda location actually carries an even bigger selection than the original. Expect French-style pastries with Asian flavors folded in, plus coffee drinks, soft serve, and affogato. There's also a special ice cream croissant on the menu, for anyone who can't decide between a pastry and a scoop of ice cream.

The bakery held its grand opening the following weekend, on Saturday, July 4, so early customers got fresh pastries and a bit of a celebration in the same trip down Park Street.

Why It Matters for Park Street

Storefront turnover on Park Street is something a lot of Alamedans keep half an eye on. When a longtime spot like Coffee Cultures closes, it's not always clear what comes next, or how long the space will sit empty before someone new signs a lease. Here, the turnaround was quick. That matters because a filled storefront keeps foot traffic moving and keeps the block feeling alive, instead of leaving another dark window between the shops that are still open.

It's also one more sign that Park Street keeps pulling in new coffee and bakery owners, even ones who already run a shop across the bay. Rocket Reuse moved into a new home nearby too, and the corridor's stayed busy with new businesses opening their doors this year.
