Family-friendly pro wrestling is back at Almanac Adventureland & Brewery, and yes, it's really called Puppet Wars.

Yes, it's really called Puppet Wars, and no, there are no actual puppets in the ring. Live professional wrestling returns to Almanac Adventureland & Brewery on Saturday, September 12, and it's family-friendly enough to bring the kids.
What Puppet Wars actually is
Puppet Wars is put on by a group called Puppet Masters Dojo, and despite the name, it's real independent pro wrestling with real wrestlers. Expect larger-than-life characters, storylines, and matches that mix comedy with actual athletic action. It's the kind of show where you don't need to know anything about wrestling going in. You just show up and see what happens.
When and where
- Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the first match at 6:30 p.m.
- The show wraps up by 9 p.m.
- It's at Almanac Adventureland & Brewery, 651 West Tower Avenue at Alameda Point.
- Tickets are $20 in advance or $30 at the door.
- All ages are welcome.
Almanac's Alameda Point taproom is already set up for exactly this kind of night. Between the arcade games, the beach area for kids, and the beer on tap for the adults, there's something to do whether or not you're watching every match.
Why it's worth putting on the calendar
Alameda doesn't have a ton of live entertainment options that work for the whole family on a Saturday night, and $20 for a couple hours of entertainment is hard to beat these days. If wrestling isn't usually your thing, that's kind of the point. It's more theater than sport, and the crowd at these shows tends to be as much a part of the show as the wrestlers.
Puppet Masters Dojo also sells a few upgrades if you want to make a night of it. There's a Guest Referee package if you want to actually be part of a match, plus VIP and sponsorship options for anyone who wants to go all in. None of that is required, though. A general ticket gets you in the door for the full show.
September 12 is still a couple weeks out, so there's time to grab tickets before the door price kicks in.
